Burj Dubai Delayed Again
The Burj Dubai has been delayed once again, and rumors are now suggesting that the World’s tallest building will now open in December 2nd to commemorate UAE National day. The developer Emaar was only prepared to say that the building will be open, “this year,” when questioned.
The 124th floor will now be an observation deck and open to the public according to a recent statement, with an open air balcony for those “who have no fear of heights,” which sadly does not include me. Thomas Dempsey, General Manager of the Burj Dubai said,”The views are breathtaking and surreal. You can see the entire city like a postcard, which makes you realize that Burj Dubai is truly symbolic of human achievement and what mankind can do with teamwork and commitment.”
Personally I think it is more testament to what mankind can do with an endless supply of cheap labor, but it is an impressive sight nonetheless. The latest news from Dubai is generally not good with three of the major developers, Nakheel, Emaar and Limitless pulling out of this year’s cityscape.
The rumors have been bouncing around for some time, and there is no love lost between the Sheiks with some suggestion back in April that the completion date would be put back and that the Burj Dubai would be made to sit empty for a year as “punishment,” after Abu Dhabi was forced to bail out Dubai to the tune of $1o billion. We shall see. There was also supposed to be 30,000 luxury homes built around the base of the tower – we shall also see if they get built in light of the economic crisis.
