Christie + Co has sold the leasehold interest of the Lord Milner Hotel, the 5-star boutique hotel in Central London, to Adrian Gardiner, owner of the Mantis Group, for an undisclosed sum, although we understand the seller was “motivated.”
Located in the heart of London’s fashionable Belgravia area in Ebury Street, the eleven bedroom boutique Lord Milner Hotel is named after Lord Alfred Milner, 1st Viscount Milner, the controversial German-born British statesman and colonial administrator. Milner, who was appointed High Commissioner for Southern Africa and Governor of Cape Colony in 1897, lived the majority of his later life in the Borough of Westminster.
The Mantis Group currently operates the five-star Draycott Hotel situated between Chelsea and Knightsbridge, which it acquired through Christie + Co in 2007, and a number of game reserves, boutique hotels and retreats throughout South Africa and Europe.
Adrian Gardiner, Chairman of the Mantis Group, said: “We are thrilled to have acquired the distinguished Lord Milner and we welcome it into the Mantis Group’s collection of unique properties. We look forward to welcoming both regular and new guests through the doors under the Mantis brand.”
David Creamore, Director at Christie + Co, said: “We are delighted to have secured an international luxury hotel operator such as the Mantis Group for this superbly located, boutique property. This deal again highlights that despite the challenging conditions buyers are still in the market for quality, well-located properties at realistic prices.”
Lord Milner Luxury Boutique Hotel
The hotel market seems to be quite volatile currently, with a number of upscale US hotels facing financial difficulties. The luxury boutique hotel Paris and London markets seem to be relatively strong in the upper echelons though.
