Eleven Million Dollar Car The Worlds Most Expensive Vintage Automobile ?

A Ferrari 250 GT California Spyder sold for almost $11 million at auction recently, making it the most valuable vintage car ever sold under the hammer.

Once owned by U.S. actor James Coburn, the Ferrari 250 GT was made exclusively for the American market. The rare black convertible was one of 33 cars and scores of Ferrari memorabilia sold at auction on Sunday in the luxury sports carmaker’s hometown of Maranello in northern Italy.

The staggering 7 million euros was paid by British radio and television host Chris Evans and eclipsed previous records for vintage automobiles sold at auction. And if any of you have had the misfortune to watch a lot of British TV, you will understand when I say, “I hate Chris Evans.” But in a nice way.

“It’s a very rare Ferrari, one of just 56 built,” said spokesman Terrence Lobzun. “It’s a very desirable car, probably one of the most desirable Ferraris ever built as far as style and design are concerned.”

Other vintage models that collectors paid top dollar for included a 1964 Ferrari 250 LM sold for 4.5 million euros while an autographed 2007 race suit owned by Formula One driver Kimi Raikkonen fetched 11,500 euros. An assortment of items ranging from a 1952 oil tank to a bronze crucifix were also sold at the auction, which attracted Ferrari aficionados and collectors from around the world.

But if you are a little miffed at a missed opportunity, Denig Cars Worldwide has a 1957 for sale. Price on application, but I would like to bet it has just gone up. Which is a good excuse for some vintage car porn.

vintage car and you didn’t buy one back in the day then you are going to have a really hard time finding one that you like. If you really want one of these cars you are going to have to go to the junk yard and get a salvaged piece because you are not going to find anyone that wants to sell theirs.
