Historic Luxury Resort in Tuscany Italy
Castello di Casole
I think I’m in love. Well, love may not be quite the right word, but I know where I am going for my next vacation. When thinking of Italy, and particularly Tuscany, just about any English or American immediately conjures up images of rolling, vine covered hills and lazy afternoons spent drinking chilled wine on the terrace of a stone villa overlooking beautiful pastures with Tuscan fragrances wafting on the warm breeze. Perhaps preceded by a gentle bicycle or horse ride through vineyards and olive orchards, ending with a slow meander along a cypress-lined lane to a castle set on a hill where local culinary experts and wine makers await your every desire. Sadly, those opportunities are few and far between as new developments and modernization have eaten into the traditional Tuscan way of life – but this is one of those rare opportunities. In fact, probably a unique opportunity.

A village in Tuscany
Castello di Casole is an 18th century castle set on one of the largest private landholdings in Italy and has recently been restored to what can only be described as magnificent condition. Regular readers will be wondering where my sarcastic bone has vanished to, but I honestly get the impression from this project that there was a genuine desire on the part of the development team to restore and maintain the original feel of the property rather than just make a quick buck from yet another luxury development.
Using indigenous local stone, tiles and other materials that have existed on the property for centuries, the castle and a number of “Casali” farmhouses on the 4,200 acre estate have been turned into what must be one of the most appealing private resorts on the planet, which includes a five-star hotel and a world class spa and fitness center.
Cooking and language classes, mountain biking and walking trails; an equestrian center just over the hill all combine to allow you to immerse yourself in a days-gone-by taste of Tuscany. Oh yes, I am definitely going. Who knows, maybe I will get a personal invite? Hint, hint……..
Ownership options include a variety of whole or partnership interests and although all of the restored farmhouses have already sold out, there are a few still to be restored which are available. I understand there will be a maximum of 30 farmhouses on the property, so privacy assured. This is a selection of photographs of the farmhouses.
