Eco Friendly Luxury Beachfront Resort in Southern Belize
Belize’s First Eco-Friendly Resort Designed Green from the Ground Up
Ravenspur Investments Inc. today unveiled plans for Palmetto Bay Resort at Maya Beach, a secluded tropical hideaway in Southern Belize situated on 16-miles of white sand beaches and complemented by stunning scenery of the Maya Mountains. Palmetto Bay will introduce unprecedented luxury beachfront real estate and Four Star amenities to the Placencia Peninsula of Southern Belize, and will be the first development in the Caribbean designed ‘green’ from inception.
The first phase of the gated resort, which is currently under construction, will be comprised of 36 whole ownership, luxury beachfront condominiums ranging from approximately 1,100 to 4,500 square feet, each with unobstructed views of the Caribbean Sea and extensive outdoor living space. Prices will start in the high $200,000s USD. The international sales and marketing campaign for Palmetto Bay Resort commences today.
The elegantly designed turnkey one- two- and three-bedroom residences are spread through two low-rise buildings. Interiors are inspired by the rich Caribbean heritage while the resort’s outdoors encapsulates the area’s natural beauty, including a lush rainforest and exotic flora. Designer Julieanne Dobson-renown work on Francis Ford Coppola’s Turtle Inn- will create the interiors and intimate outdoor settings with use of the finest natural materials, including warm woods and natural stone, vibrant contemporary textiles, and niche lit Mayan and African inspired art.
Ownership at Palmetto Bay Resort will include world-class amenities such as fitness facilities, conference rooms with wireless internet; 24-hour reception and security; fully equipped luxury kitchens with gourmet utensils and stainless steel appliances; balcony barbecues; and lush, mature landscaping with use of indigenous fruit trees and plants.
Lure of the Sea
The Caribbean Sea’s influence will be apparent from nearly every aspect of Palmetto Bay Resort. Upon arrival owners will encounter a meandering stream that wanders through the lobby, under arches and deposits into a spectacular 300-foot oceanfront infinity pool. Once owners are at the water’s edge, a pristine 400′ private beach, beach boardwalk, and private dock with large palapa will further articulate the ocean environment.
Going Green
Palmetto Bay will break new ground offering sustainable technologies and systems to reduce ecological impact. As the first resort development in the Belize to be designed ‘green’ from the ground up, the resort has integrated leading edge geothermal, solar, and water filtration technologies, which alone is estimated to conserve 1,000 gallons of water per day at full occupancy – beneficial to both the environment and reducing ongoing operational costs for owners.
Lure of Belize’s Pristine Environment
Belize’s natural environment boasts a diverse array of features including lush, tropical forests abundant with glistening waterfalls, exotic wildlife, pine-covered mountains, mangrove swamps, lagoons, unspoiled beaches, pristine marine environments, and the Maya Great Barrier Reef.
Eco-travel and sports adventure opportunities abound, including fishing, kayaking, snorkeling, sailing, swimming, trekking, and caving. Archaeological Parks, Marine Reserves and National Parks, including the world’s only Jaguar Preserve, clean, clear water from the mountains, very little industry, and a low population density with less than five persons per square mile of land make this an ideal retreat for anyone wishing to escape the hectic pace of city life.
Caribbean Culture
The Central American country of Belize is a British Commonwealth where the local population speaks fluent English and the area’s rich culture heritage appeals to all ages. Visitors commonly enjoy two leading indigenous musical forms (Punta and Brukdown), and experience a vibrant developing visual art and film culture. Awe-inspiring archaeological sites and museums offer a chance to explore the custom of early Mayan civilizations. Traditional Mayan, Garifuna, Mesta and Creole festivals provide another chance to experience the area’s colorful heritage.
Easy Access
Palmetto Bay Resort is just a short flight from the southern United States with major airlines offering several per day to Belize City: Continental from Houston; American from Miami; US Airways from Charlotte; Skyservice from Toronto; and Delta from Atlanta. Complimentary transportation (to and from Placencia and to the local airport) will round out services that put owners at ease.
Real estate ownership in Belize is without restriction, with foreign buyers taking full title and enjoying the same rights as Belizeans. For more information about opportunities at Palmetto Bay Resort visit:

Sounds like a pretty nice place! Thanks for posting!
Thanks for posting Mark! Much appreciated…..hope to see you for a visit someday!
Love to. I will expect my ticket when?
Be wise not all that you read and see is as it appears, Carltan Watson does not own the land and will use your money to build the resort. He is building this 36 unit condo project on 400 feet of land, while the other lots are single family homes. When Carlton contracted for the land he told everyone he was building three story buildings not six story which will sore three stories above anything on the peninsula. The neighbors to this property are excited about this project because it does not fit into the character of the peninsula. A project of this size requires an Environmental Impact Assessment to be filed with the government, which Carton has not done. Be ware of government action. Belize is a friendly place, the reason I built a home there, don’t become an ugly foreigner. There is plenty of good property to buy, don’t ruin a beautiful area.
This project is off the scale in height and density for this part of the Placencia Penninsula… All the surounding lots are single family homes. Why not scale back to 2 or 3 srories and fit in? The artists rendering is very decieving. The construction footprint will take up at leasr 75 feet of the tiny land they are builfing on. Green and eco friendly? I think not. First thing they did was rape all the foliage and destroy the wildlife habitat. Sad and vulgar IMHO. Anyone thinking of buying “preconstruction” should INSIST that any deposits are held in escrow. My 2 cents? This one will go on the project failure list…….
Edit “75% of the tiny land they are building on”
Jay and JTVD.
Interesting comments. Thanks.
Do you have anything more details on these issues? If you do, I will happily publish them. We are not all one-sided and would like to give a fair balance of information.

Belize is one of the most beautiful places in the Americans. The people are friendly, the weather is generally good (a few hurricanes now and when – Dean and Felix), Mayan history and the ocean. We started coming to Belize many years ago to dive and over the years of diving fell in love with the people of Belize. We decided that Belize would be the place that we would retire too because of the all above reasons. We found this Peninsula in southern Belize and realized it was for use. We recognized the need for foreign investment in the country and the native people recognized the wealth the foreigners brought with them to help finance the country. Foreign investment in Belize in good for the people and the country, but this project just is to large for the Peninsula. This project on this piece of land will occupy most of the property, in order to build the first building a full growth stands sea grades, palmettos and cocoplums were removed – no more Palmettos on the property. The Peninsula to this point has been a low rise development, protecting the natural vegetation. This project does not fit with the character of the land. I fear that the ugly American (however Carlton is Canadian) have arrived to destroy the natural beauty of a foreign country. Go to http://www.destinationsbelize.com/pictures.htm and chick in sidewalk and see what Placencia is, its a quite intimate community. This project is not Eco-friendly, just the opposite, eco-friendly would protect the natural landscape. This project is all about making an almighty dollar – your dollars.
That’s a shame, JTVD
You seem to be a good writer – Would you care to send me an article about this with a few links to a few other people who think the same way? And I will publish it for you.
Mark
I agree JTVD.
The Placencia Penninsula is at a tipping point. This project sets a dangerous precedent for density. High density construction and wholesale mangrove destruction are a problem. An ecological disaster in the making. I only hope we can come to our senses before it is too late.
Also we have brown outs and power outages often, limited fresh water sepply from across the lagoon and no proper sewage systems in place to handle huge increases in residents. Very few of the current residents have AC. A bunch of units using electricity US style is a nightmare to think about. One tiny road in and out. This place is just not set up for a bunch of people.
I have been told that Palmetto Bay needs preconstruction money to continue. Time will tell. There are some very nice low density condos available that are already built and in better locations on the Penninsula. No speculating. Or for investers? Look at waterfront lots or single family beach houses for less money. More potential with less risk… Just MHO.
Hi Mark,
Long time reader. Great blog. Nice site.
I’ve traveled to Placencia 3 times in the last 2 years. Love it down there and have kept up to speed with the real estate developments on the peninsula. This project that these few posters are complaining about is peanuts when you look at some of the other developments on the peninsula such as the 6 story Copal Beach Resort with its 2 acre pool and the 500 acres Ara Macao resort. Development on the peninsula is inevitable and simply complaining is not going to stop people from visiting this area and purchasing real estate. They’re naive if they think ‘their’ gem is going to remain untouched in today’s day in age. A harsh reality.
Great Resort Development. Well planned with a experienced development team. The best development in Belize by far at the moment. It is the perfect location. The people are friendly and there is activity for everyone. The area is just being discovered and realestate prices are still low.

Do you work for Carlton or his real estate people. A good developer would get the approval and input of his neighbors. A good developer would be concerned about the real environment he is about to destroy rather than toting he building an environmentally friendly resort that will tower three stories over his neighbor. A good developer invest some of his own money in the development because he believe its a god project. A good developer wouldn’t destroy a perfect location. An a informed buyer would know that there is an over surplus of condos on the peninsula already and buying into something which is not started on land the developer does not own is not prudent.
Pete – Thanks. I do try and be impartial but also print the information I find. I agree it is probably unrealistic to think any of these beautiful, out-of-the-way places can stay pristine. The only thing that really gets my goat is when they are sold as “eco-friendly” when they are not. I covered a situation a while back where the “Earth Liberation Front” have started burning down homes that are mis-sold by some developers:
http://blog.luxuryproperty.com/earth-liberation-front-vs-luxury-developers/
I don’t think that is the answer, but it certainly shows the strength of feeling out there.
JTVD – I would hazard a guess he is an agent and will not be back
There is an over supply of condos all over the world at the moment. You can only have so many “luxury condo developments” But look at Dubai. If you run out of beach front – just build some more.
Jay & JTVD are the same person. Sounds like Jay Van Duezen. This is the same minority that belive that what they belive is right for all. These people are so desperate they speak to them selves on blogs. The developers of this project broke no laws. The people of Belize, The government of Belize have decided that tourism is the way for Belize. No belly aching and whining by a minority of expat will change the governments view. The biggest change to the Placencia is the road being paved. 2 six story buildings on 16 miles of sand will bring well paying jobs to the area, and that is what Belize needs.
Most governments have decided that
I have no problem with that. As I said, the only time I have a problem is if they are misrepresented.
This certainly doesn’t sound as though it is going to have a major impact on the local environment, but whether it is “eco-friendly” I can’t decide.
I will just have to go take a look for myself.
I could do with a break
Great discussion. The time has come and gone where developers will be able to offer developments in such pristine locales as this that people (buyers & locals alike) will be interested in properties that aren’t green construction.
how is Palmetto Bay considered “eco”??? I don’t get it…by the looks of the designs, it seems as if all of the natural and eco surroundings will be destroyed? I think your project is just another ocean front resort.
garrett – I have been sent another release by the same company – I asked them to back up their claims – no answer.
I will not publish their releases unless they do back it up. I agree with you. I am sick to death of hearing the words “sustainable,” What the hell does that mean exactly?
