garrett – I have been sent another release by the same company – I asked them to back up their claims – no answer.

I will not publish their releases unless they do back it up. I agree with you. I am sick to death of hearing the words “sustainable,” What the hell does that mean exactly?

how is Palmetto Bay considered “eco”??? I don’t get it…by the looks of the designs, it seems as if all of the natural and eco surroundings will be destroyed? I think your project is just another ocean front resort.

Great discussion. The time has come and gone where developers will be able to offer developments in such pristine locales as this that people (buyers & locals alike) will be interested in properties that aren’t green construction.

Most governments have decided that I have no problem with that. As I said, the only time I have a problem is if they are misrepresented.

This certainly doesn’t sound as though it is going to have a major impact on the local environment, but whether it is “eco-friendly” I can’t decide.

I will just have to go take a look for myself.

Jay & JTVD are the same person. Sounds like Jay Van Duezen. This is the same minority that belive that what they belive is right for all. These people are so desperate they speak to them selves on blogs. The developers of this project broke no laws. The people of Belize, The government of Belize have decided that tourism is the way for Belize. No belly aching and whining by a minority of expat will change the governments view. The biggest change to the Placencia is the road being paved. 2 six story buildings on 16 miles of sand will bring well paying jobs to the area, and that is what Belize needs.

Pete – Thanks. I do try and be impartial but also print the information I find. I agree it is probably unrealistic to think any of these beautiful, out-of-the-way places can stay pristine. The only thing that really gets my goat is when they are sold as “eco-friendly” when they are not. I covered a situation a while back where the “Earth Liberation Front” have started burning down homes that are mis-sold by some developers:

I don’t think that is the answer, but it certainly shows the strength of feeling out there.

JTVD – I would hazard a guess he is an agent and will not be back There is an over supply of condos all over the world at the moment. You can only have so many “luxury condo developments” But look at Dubai. If you run out of beach front – just build some more.

Do you work for Carlton or his real estate people. A good developer would get the approval and input of his neighbors. A good developer would be concerned about the real environment he is about to destroy rather than toting he building an environmentally friendly resort that will tower three stories over his neighbor. A good developer invest some of his own money in the development because he believe its a god project. A good developer wouldn’t destroy a perfect location. An a informed buyer would know that there is an over surplus of condos on the peninsula already and buying into something which is not started on land the developer does not own is not prudent.

Great Resort Development. Well planned with a experienced development team. The best development in Belize by far at the moment. It is the perfect location. The people are friendly and there is activity for everyone. The area is just being discovered and realestate prices are still low.
