Luxury Travel in Oman: Desert meets Chic
Oman is starting to pitch itself to the luxury traveler with an eye, no doubt, to the success of its neighbor Dubai. Oman has a lot to offer the discerning traveler. Especially as a contrast to Dubai
Why? Dubai is ultra-modern, tiny and flat. Qman was closed to the outside world until recently, is a country larger than France and has some impressive mountains. Now thanks to the vision and benevlance of the current Sultan Qaboos bin Said, Oman is starting to use its unque combination of beauty, history and Arabic culture to good effect. The great news is that there is no reason to rough it in this little-known luxury destination
Six Senses Hideway Zighy Bay, Oman
Have you ever checked in by paraglider? Its one of the options at Six Senses Zighy Bay resort - presumably your luggage arrives separately! The paraglider is tandem so no experience is required and what better way to make an entrance than from making the jump from the top of the towering mountain behind the resort.
Although open for less than a year Zighy Bay is starting to get a name among the expats in Dubai, for whom its only a 90 minutes drive, but also amongst the Euro-elite. The dramatic location certainly has something to do with the appeal, situated on a secluded beach surrounded by the mountains of the Musandam Peninsula on the Gulf of Oman.
The 79 pool villas, plus The Private Reserve, and 2 Retreats are a blend of the surrounding traditional Omani style with modern facilities which provide luxury but will leave no doubt that you are in Arabia. According to Six Senses:
“The villas offer a spacious, personal environment with rustic chic décor to reflect the brand’s positioning of Redefining Experiences.”
To the rest of us the villas are a good size; especially the pool villas which offer a 2 stories overlooking the central pool.
That there is a world class spa goes without saying but Zighy Bay offers more than that. 4WD excursions allow you to see more of the dramatic country, dune bashing, oasis visits and even shopping excursions to both Muscat and Dubai. A dhowl ride on the Arabian Sea is one of life’s must do experiences too.
If the sea is more your scene then big-game fishing is on offer and the chef will be happy to cook your catch to your liking. For those who don’t want to fish for their dinner they won’t go hungry either with a wide-ranging cuisine including everything from Arabian-style mezze to Italian cuisine.
So total indolance or luxury adventures the choice is yours in Oman: checkout the Six Senses HIdeaway Zighy Bay for your next luxurious Middle East escape!
