Cher wants to sell her Malibu mansion
Cher no longer wants to be Malibu Barbie. She’s putting her (approximately) 14,000-square-foot mansion (Mr. Big Time lists it as just over 13,000 sq. ft., as does Real Estalker) up for sale. To the tune of $45,000,000. That’s just crazy talk! But, it’s true, and listed with Hilton & Hyland.
The Wall Street Journal wrote about the listing today. And this evening, we found the listing on the MLS. Unfortunately, there’s only one picture right now. We’re hoping for more at a later time (we’ll see).
You don’t often find 1.7 acre estates in Malibu. That alone probably makes this property worth quite a bit. But $45 million? She must be very hopeful during the current real estate market.
The monstrous home has 6 bedrooms, 7 bathrooms, a theatre, gym, and several verandas — according to listing information. Apparently even the tennis court has quite a view. The property also has an infinity pool and a guest house.
We really wish there was a more detailed description of the property available so we could tell you more. We’ll keep researching and let you know if we come up with a bit more about this estate.
Update: For more info about the home, including some great pictures, see the Architectural Digest write-up on Cher’s home. Hat tip to reader Mike for the link. Thanks, Mike!

Governator Buys Acreage in Republik of Kalifornia
As Kalifornians, er Californians, like to joke, Arnold Schwarzenegger is our large-and-in-charge Governator. He and the missus just bought a 25-acre tract in Santa Barbara County. How much for this luxurious acreage? Only $4.7 million. A steal, my sweet ones. A steal.
The LA Times broke the story on Tuesday, revealing that the purchase was made in the Rancho Monte Alegre project. This project takes a ranch with several thousand acres of canyons, waterfalls, and spectacular views and turns it into just 25 private estates. Fortunately, about 2800 acres were set aside for a land trust. At least some of that amazing property will remain undeveloped - and that’s a disappearing beast in good old Kalifornia.
Imagine this, dear ones — an entire project of 25 home sites in parcels from 20 to 720 acres. But talk about CC&Rs. The home sizes are required to be a minimum of 4500 square feet. There’s a maximum, too, but it appears to vary based on the acreage. And the LA Times reports that the 99-page project guidelines determine a house’s style of construction, what landscaping can be used, and many other niggling little details. We think Ah-nold will leave the guideline reading to his lawyers. Or maybe his wife.
So we guess the Governator’s idea of luxury property better line up pretty closely with developers, right? Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver must be making plans for when they have to vacate the governor’s mansion. Or maybe they’re just expanding their real estate empire. Only time will tell, my pretties.

Spider-Man’s $10 million land deal
Tobey Maguire recently purchased a piece of luxury property in Brentwood. But there’s no home on it yet. He paid almost $10 million for an acre of land north of Sunset.
Because the property was already razed, he doesn’t have to deal with clearing off the old house. But really, $10 million for an acre? That’s only $1 million less than what he sold his Hollywood Hills house for in 2007.
We wonder what his budget for home construction will be like. And will his wife’s father help with the deal? He is president and COO of Universal, after all. Nah, Maguire has enough money to build multiple houses after all of the Spider-Man movies he has starred in.
