Tim McGraw and Faith Hill are selling out of Beverly Park

08-321157-8News is popping up all over that husband and wife country music duo Tim McGraw and Faith Hill have listed their ~10,500-square-foot home in exclusive Beverly Park. The six bedroom, seven and a half bath home is priced at $14,800,000.

The Mediterranean-style estate is on 4 acres and boasts a dramatic foyer with a big staircase accented with scrollwork (probably iron, as best we can tell from the photos). Not a big fan of the table with an angel statue smack in the middle of the entry, but we’ve been over the country-style decor for quite a few years. All of those angels, cute little dolls, and floral patterns is just a little too much. But there are lots of people who love it. More power to them. Just don’t sneak in and decorate our place that way, okay?

The formal dining has a big chandelier and columns accenting the entry. It’s nice, but a tiny bit too beige for us. And we’re not really sure about the statues flanking the windows. We don’t like to be watched while we’re eating, thank-you-very-much.

The kitchen is nice and large, which is always a plus in our book. A center island with sink is a perfect prep area. And it appears to have a bit of seating at the end. Perfect for coffee in the morning. The countertops look to be marble or granite. Probably granite, although it’s a bit hard to tell in the tiny pictures in the listing. The stove looks to be at least 6 burners or more, too. We’ll take it!

There’s a small, informal dining room that has a nice view of the pool. But we cannot get behind the pink walls with the white table and slipcovered chairs. No, no, no. It’s a nice little room other than that, though. We like the dark wood floors (of course).

The family room is quite nice. Even though we’re back in beige territory, it has a lot going for it. Look at the architectural features in the room. The ceiling detail, the large windows, fireplace, TV nook, and even the detail on the entry door. It’s a nice room. Slightly too formal for our tastes, but we’d be in there all the time with our feet up and a book in our lap.

“Marky Mark” Wahlberg lists in Beverly Hills

08-318667Actor and musician Mark Wahlberg has listed his Beverly Hills home at $15.9 million. Wahlberg, also known by “Marky Mark” bought the 5 bedroom, 10 1/2 bath home in 1991.

Listing information indicates 15,000 square feet of living space, while original reports of his purchase list it at just under 9,000. Sounds like someone’s been doing some adding on in the last 17 years or so. Wahlberg purchased the place for slightly under $5 million.

The 1.4 acre property includes a 2-story private guest house, a basketball court, and a massive gym with a boxing ring. And take a look at that pool - a waterfall, grotto, and cabanas wired for sound and flatscreens. That’s some serious relaxing space there. And in case that’s not enough, the home also has a 34mm digital theatre and screening room.

The listing also touts 2 luxurious living rooms, bedroom suites that all open to lush gardens and resort-like settings. Because where else would a former Calvin Klein model live?

Okay, we jest. A little. Who knew that when Wahlberg hit the music scene that he’d model underwear and then go on to be a (somewhat) decent actor and an executive producer of not one, but two HBO series? He’s been in movies ranging from Boogie Nights to Three Kings (with Clooney) to The Perfect Storm (also with Clooney) to the upcoming The Lovely Bones.

Britney Spears does it again

08-314861-17Little miss Britney Spears is selling her Beverly Hills home after having it less than two years. This gurl has been in the news a lot the last two years. Many of us wondered if she was losing her ever-lovin’ mind. And really, shame on those around her who tried to exploit her during that time (yes, mr. paparazzo, we’re looking at you).

The things Ms. Spears did during that time was a tabloid’s dream. But so many of us just thought it was sad. And strange. And just a bit surreal. So even though we’re not really fans of her music, we’re still glad that she seems to have moved on from “teh crazy” and into a bit more stability.

This home, located in a gated community called The Summit, has 6 bedrooms and 6 1/2 baths according to listing information. Additionally, it has a wet bar, library, den, and grand foyer. It boasts around 7,500 square feet with high ceilings, millwork, and stone and mosaic tile floors. In fact, the $7,900,000 listing includes select furnishings, accessories and art work. We guess Miss Britney doesn’t want to take along all of her baggage. Ahem.

And who can resist a chef’s kitchen with Viking appliances and a breakfast nook that’s open to the great room? It has a huge island, too, which is a great feature. The pictures only showed a part of the kitchen, so it appears that there may not be a lot of cabinets, which kind of surprises us. But it’s also possible the storage is just out of the frame.

We initially didn’t like the grand foyer pictures, until we saw a shot from the 2nd floor. All you see are the bookshelves on all walls, and a massive chandelier dropping through a cutout in the middle to hover above the foyer.

Take a look at the rest of the pictures for views of the patio and pool, and the rest of the house.

No real word yet where she plans to go, so we’ll just have to wait and see. Maybe she’s looking for a bit of quiet stability. Lord knows her children could probably use summa that.

Pete Sampras sells Beverly Hills home for just under $17 million

Sampras-XTennis star Pete Sampras recently sold his Beverly Hills mansion for $16,980,000 - about $6,000,000 less than his asking price of $23,000,000. Big Time Listings reports the sale of Sampras’ 10,000+ square foot home based on public records.

It’s quite a mansion that Sampras has sold to Will & Grace creator Max Mutchnick. While it “only” has 5 bedrooms, it has a whopping 12 bathrooms. That’s more than one for every 1,000 square feet. At least there’s little risk of not finding an open bath when you need it.

The hallway and stairs, as you can see in the pictures below, are all wood and pretty amazing. Lots of architectural detail there. Let’s see, in addition to the beds and baths, it has a professional theater (which we noticed has a nice pool table, too), an office/library, and even maid’s quarters. While we don’t care about the maid’s quarters, a nice place to watch movies and football, along with a great office/library is right up our alley.

But what’s even more to our tastes? How about a master suite with a sitting room, his and hers baths, and a sundeck. Now that’s exactly what a master suite needs.

Outside, on 1.04 acres, there’s a pool, putting green, play areas, and a tennis court. Of course there’s a tennis court. And check out the courtyard with fountain. Dramatic, no?

Considering Sampras bought the home for $8,300,000 in 2001, he made a tidy little profit after seven years.

Trump has competition for McMahon’s house

Ann Brenoff has posted on the LA Times blog that the Donald Trump-Ed McMahon deal may not go through, as The Donald now has competition to buy the place.

The listing agent reports that an anonymous second buyer has shown up. Interesting. We thought the listing agent went to New York to ask Trump to please help out McMahon. And now there’s a mysterious buyer.

Are they hoping for a bidding war, perhaps? The Wall Street Journal was reporting that McMahon owes various creditors, not just the mortgage company, several million dollars. So while a sale may help him avoid foreclosure, it won’t help him pay off the other bills he has.

So we wonder, is this situation something cooked up by the listing agent to get a higher price out of the house? Or is this second buyer really legit? We’ll keep watching for updates.

Tomorrow morning we’ll have a beautiful Canadian home to show you, instead of all of this McMahon news. Promise.

Donald Trump to buy McMahon home

mcmahon homeWell what do you know? It looks like Donald Trump has stepped up to rescue Ed McMahon from foreclosure. And none too soon, it appears.

We saw in the LA Times today that Trump has agreed to buy the McMahon home, and he’ll allow McMahon and his wife to continue to live there. As we mentioned just a couple of days ago, McMahon had slashed his home’s asking price in hopes of avoiding imminent foreclosure.

And it appears he just may have dodged that bullet.

Trump said he didn’t really know McMahon, but grew up watching him on TV. He plans to buy the home and then lease it back to McMahon. Um, that’s great, Donald. Really nice of you. But if McMahon hasn’t been able to work for the last 18 months due to a neck injury, and is over $644,000 in arrears on his mortgage, how in the world is he going to lease his beloved home from you?

Just saying.

The actual details, including purchase price, are still being worked out. According to the Times, McMahon’s listing agent actually flew to New York to personally appeal to Trump. We guess it worked.

We’re actually quite relieved that this situation looks to be resolved in a favorable manner. I grew up watching McMahon on the Tonight Show, and later I even watched him on Star Search (shut up). And who wants to see an 85-year-old man and his wife booted into the streets?

McMahon’s 6 bedroom, 5 bathroom house has been on the market for almost two years. They kept dropping the price gradually, hoping to attract a buyer.

Ed McMahon drops home price again

Ed McMahon is still desperately trying to sell his Beverly Hills home. In fact, he just recently dropped his asking price by $1,900,000. That’s a big reduction by anyone’s standards.

As we previously mentioned, McMahon is trying to avoid foreclosure by Countrywide. In June, it was reported that McMahon was $644,000 in arrears. And since it appears he still hasn’t been able to work, that number can only be growing.

The current asking price for the home is $4,600,000 according to the listing. The home, which has been on the market for two years, started out at $7,700,000. He gradually reduced the price to $5,700,000. Inexplicably, the price went back up earlier this year before the most recent decrease, according to Dr. Housing Bubble.

We wonder how much longer McMahon can avoid foreclosure. With real estate values dropping everywhere, it’s entirely possible that with two mortgages he is upside down on his property value.
