“Marky Mark” Wahlberg lists in Beverly Hills

08-318667Actor and musician Mark Wahlberg has listed his Beverly Hills home at $15.9 million. Wahlberg, also known by “Marky Mark” bought the 5 bedroom, 10 1/2 bath home in 1991.

Listing information indicates 15,000 square feet of living space, while original reports of his purchase list it at just under 9,000. Sounds like someone’s been doing some adding on in the last 17 years or so. Wahlberg purchased the place for slightly under $5 million.

The 1.4 acre property includes a 2-story private guest house, a basketball court, and a massive gym with a boxing ring. And take a look at that pool - a waterfall, grotto, and cabanas wired for sound and flatscreens. That’s some serious relaxing space there. And in case that’s not enough, the home also has a 34mm digital theatre and screening room.

The listing also touts 2 luxurious living rooms, bedroom suites that all open to lush gardens and resort-like settings. Because where else would a former Calvin Klein model live?

Okay, we jest. A little. Who knew that when Wahlberg hit the music scene that he’d model underwear and then go on to be a (somewhat) decent actor and an executive producer of not one, but two HBO series? He’s been in movies ranging from Boogie Nights to Three Kings (with Clooney) to The Perfect Storm (also with Clooney) to the upcoming The Lovely Bones.

Sports Illustrated model Molly Sims lists Hollywood Hills home

Molly Sims, best known for her role in “Las Vegas” or maybe swimsuit modeling for Sports Illustrated, listed her Hollywood Hills home for $2,999,000. The 3 bedroom, 3.5 bath house is 3,100 square-feet and is built with a 1930s Spanish style (with Hollywood flair, according to the listing).

Both Ann Breoff of the LA Times and the Real Estalker wrote of this, so we’re not sure who got the scoop on this one.

The listing highlights a newer kitchen with carrera marble, Viking appliances, a Sub Zero and a wine fridge. We might just be in love already. The kitchen does look quite nice, even with the white-on-white of most everything. Can we just mention that the perspective in these pictures is killing us? Can someone please hire a damn professional photographer or even a competent amateur to take these pics? Although in this case, it looks like the post-processing is what skewed the proportions. C’mon real estate agents, let us properly drool over the homes, will you? We’ll say “pretty please” if it will help.

Can we just stop for a moment and talk about the master bath? Love. Huge shower, and what looks like a fair-sized tub as well. While we’re not exhibitionist enough to have a big window like that in the shower (not to mention at least a door or curtain to keep the steam in), we love it anyway. But we’d have to put something on the window to keep the gardener from getting more of a view than either one of us would like. Now the sinks on the other hand, we’re not as wild about. The countertop just doesn’t quite match and we’re not a fan of the sinks. But those are minor points on our list, anyway.

We’re not sure what the deal is with the wallpaper and shag carpet in the den, or sitting room, or office, whichever it is. But again, that’s something that can (usually) be fairly easily remedied. We do like the collection of mirrors and frames on the wall, though. Nicely arranged.

Take look at the patio with ceiling fan and tons of seating space. That is absolutely a perfect place for entertaining on a nice summer night. And the area by the pool isn’t so bad, either. Overall, it seems to be quite a lovely abode, with lots of greenery and shade. We wouldn’t turn it down, is what we’re saying.

Gisele re-lists West Village penthouse

gisele bundchen penthouseGisele Bundchen, fancypants supermodel, has re-listed her Manhattan penthouse, asking $5.9 million for the ~1,700-square-foot apartment. It was previously listed at $10.9 million in Fall 2007. That’s quite a drop in her asking price. Ms. Bundchen originally paid around $3 million for the unit, according to the WSJ, and this is not the first time she has dropped the price.

Listing information calls it a West Village spectacular triplex condominium apartment with breathtaking views of the Hudson River. The 2-bedroom, 2.5-bath home has a key-locked elevator for privacy with a loft-style living room (including a fireplace).

It features a dining area and an open kitchen. In addition, how about a terrace with a 47-foot long outdoor area for entertaining? With a grill and dining furniture, to boot! And the two bedrooms are supposed to appear suspended over the river. That could either be really cool, if you like the view, or quite scary if you’re afraid of heights or water.

The third level of the penthouse features a jacuzzi/hot tub. Perfect for relaxing after a long, tiresome day. We would love to stretch out at night, enjoying the views and the lights. Sign us up! But at around $3,400 a square-foot, it better have a damn-fine interior. The listing conveniently leaves out any inside photos, preferring to concentrate on the terrace and views.

And maybe that’s part of the problem - buyers want to catch a glimpse of a place before trekking all over the kingdom, up and down stairs and elevators. They need some enticement and it’s possible they just aren’t getting it on this listing. Or maybe it’s still just too expensive.
