The Luxury Property main site is still practically devoid of life. It is a nice splash page, but I am getting a little bored with seeing it. How hard can it be to get a website working for goodness’ sake? The delayed launch has caused considerable frustration and disappointment to a number of partners and advertisers. After a failed launch last year and more delays this year, I am beginning to wonder if it will ever materialize.

Luxury Property.com will (eventually) be the ultimate destination and advertising venue for luxury real estate - If we can get the video search facility working.

We do have a few videos live on-site at the moment, but I understand a complete revamp of the back end is underway and this will mean (yet another) slight delay.

In the meanwhile, if you have come searching for a high-end real estate video, please accept my apologies and a sample from our growing backlog. This is another of squint opera’s fantastic videos, the “A1 Corridor.”

As much as I may make fun of the crappy real estate videos on youtube, there are videos at the other end of the scale that I can only bow down to in amazement.

This one, for instance was shot by Squint/Opera to promote the regeneration of Bradford city center by the realization of World-renowned Architect Will Alsop’s masterplan. The film was commissioned by “Bradford Centre regeneration,” with the intention of appealing to both real estate investors and the general public. It would appear they succeeded beyond their wildest imaginations and all the projects featured are either under construction or being planned. Bradford will soon realize it’s goal of being one of the most expensive cities in the North of England. Beautiful – they say a picture paints a thousand words, but this video paints millions.

There are real estate videos and then there are luxury real estate videos

This particular video was produced for Alsop architects in London. If you want to use the word “surreal,” go right ahead – I already did. Not limited by the constraint of actually having to sell anything, Alsop apparently let squint/opera, the production company that made the film, go ahead and make something just plain interesting instead.

William Alsop himself has come in for a degree of criticism over some of his designs and he himself estimates that only 10% of them have ever been built. Those that have been built are in locations ranging from Singapore to Toronto to Manchester. He has been nominated several times for the Sterling prize, which he won in 2000 for his Peckham library design.

Squint/opera are closely associated with Alsop’s and have produced a number of videos for the company. Much has been written about Mr. Alsop, and his wikipedia page is here. My personal favorite quote is from the British newspaper, the Observer, which described him as “obviously not a man familiar with gyms.” I could say the same myself.
